Drawing in Silverpoint
Saturdays, July 11, 18, 25, August 1
9 am – 1 pm
Instructor: Marilyn Garber, Director of the Minnesota School of Botanical Art
Cost: $250

Silverpoint drawing is the process of using a silver stylus to deposit lines on a prepared surface. Over time, the silver naturally patinas through oxidation of the metal and becomes as dark as a pencil rendering. Drawing in silverpoint reached its peak during the renaissance era and pre-dates the pencil as a drawing tool. Leonardo DaVinci and Albrecht Durer worked in silverpoint. This workshop will focus on botanical subjects and introduce participants to drawing using silverpoint techniques on various grounds.

MEMORABLE EXHIBIT TELLS THE ST. CROIX RIVER STORY

Patterns of Change: A Story of the St. Croix River on Permanent Display at Arcola, Traveling Exhibit to come in 2009

The St. Croix River is not just a scenic vista from the veranda of the historic mansion at Arcola. The river is the heartbeat of this place. Thousands of years ago, it drew the first human visitors down the hills and through the woods to the riverbank. Now, taking you on a journey from the time of the glaciers to the present, this exhibit features a series of photomontage panels and text exploring the changes in the river valley.

On permanent display at Arcola, we invite individuals and groups to visit this exhibit to not only explore the past, but to learn how you can be a sustaining and positive part of the next chapter in the story of the St. Croix River. The Story of the St. Croix: Patterns of Change exibit was designed by architect Beth Diem and produced by Arcola Mills with funding from the McKnight Foundation. A traveling exhibit based on the Patterns of Change is planned for 2009. Watch this site for updates!
